small children in the sun
-----------------------------
junebug, blonde baby of sun
hot sweet hair melting in the
afternoon like cotton candy
stuck to your bare brown
shoulders,
one finger absentmindedly stuck
deep inside your ear, worming
and jiving the wad also melting
in the sun,
everything melts in this sun.
you stab the grass blades at
the melting underbelly of a snail,
catching dinner;
i'm pretending to sweep but i'm
watching you,
everything you do, you swam
from my cells and my soul
flopped out my vagina like
a great fat fish into water,
no less, water baby, you
tore me apart when you were born.
putting myself back together
feels so good, the greatest pleasure
of my life, to be reinvented by
you two, irish french southern
western mutt babies grown
as beautiful as anything,
as anything could ever be,
i watch you but you think
i'm sweeping, you furrow
those dusty eyebrows and
lick your own palms,
i have no idea what's there
but it tastes very sweet.

Wow! Great photos! Very sweet and spirit lifting. Love the colors.
ReplyDeleteWe've been choosing to ignore the global warming concerns and relish in the lovely January weather. I'm glad to see you're doing the same.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cutie. Would you like two boys? Seriously. I think they were actually trying to kill me today. I'm afraid to sleep.
ReplyDeleteWonderful pics.
ReplyDeletei already have two boys! two more might actually kill me. ;)
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful flower....
ReplyDeleteI really like the part about giving birth. Flopping fish, exactly!
ReplyDeleteWow, green grass, red flowers, wonderful words, and a lovely child. Beautiful! :)
ReplyDeletethat rose is HUGE! did you grow that? I wish I could grow things until they're that huge! :O I'm in awe. the photos of Lola are so sweet! great use of light and colours! :)
ReplyDeleteIt is so nice to see kids photos because they always look so carefree & real!
ReplyDeleteI want to be that free in any given moment. Those pictures remind me of the dar williams song, when I was a girl. Have you heard that one? You should.
ReplyDeleteOh yes. And I remember my children going naked all summer, hating to put clothes on to go to town.
ReplyDeleteThe freedom of little girls to bear their bodies to the sun. Our babies and their beautiful bodies.
I love this. It is awe inspiring and I wish I could write as well as you.
ReplyDeleteI wish we could stay as free as we were as children. Just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love these photos. Love the carefree purity.
ReplyDeleteGreat pics. I desperately want to run around topless in the sun, pick a flower and lay in the green grass.
ReplyDeleteI've got about five months to go before that can happen, though.
This poem tastes very sweet, too!
ReplyDeletebeautiful images of your Lola, and amazing writing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting.
