crush on: 30 Something tv show
I watched 30 Something in my twenties, and now as an official, knee deep thirtysomething can't wait to watch it again through Netflix. I love a good ensemble show or movie more than almost any other kind, where life is messy and the struggles are depicted as clearly as the joy, the failures as well as the success, with plenty of sex, love, fighting, children- the whole shabang. The theme song alone is crush worthy- I love a good opening. I had a crush on Michael, the sometimes arrogant but good looking husband. The casting of this show was perfect and the chemistry between the members believable, warm. Anyone remember when Gary died? Sob! Many of the cast members are now on Brothers and Sisters- another ensemble show with a great cast. Interesting fact: 30 Something was the first show to depict gay male sex.

I so dug this show!!!!
I remember when Gary died...so sad. Also, the mourning that took place betwen the two women who loved him....one had a son.
For years I have been wanting to watch this!!! Is it available other than Netflix? I keep thinking this show is going to speak to me!!! I can't wait to hear more of what you think. xox
I used to watch that too! I gotta re-watch it now, for all the same reasons you said. Great idea
Oh yes! In the early '90s, this show guided me back into western civilization after several years in Africa. I remember trying to knit the cardigan Gary was wearing a lot. I watched some episodes again last spring when I had to spend some time in hospital and had a good laugh at the fashion styles of those years. Thanks for bringing this up.
i don't know if it's available other than Netflix? that's where i'm getting it from. can't wait :)
That was a great show. I hated when it was cancelled. I do like Brothers and Sisters, but my favorite series of all time was Six Feet Under. That show just plain rocked. Made me wish I had a neon green hearse to drive around town. LOL!
I think I am STILL traumatized by Gary's death. Never has a tv death made me cry so hard! I was in my twenties when it was on, too and am now in my forties and it's just as good today - and how cool is it to see Melissa's clothes now?
I liked China Beach better, I wonder if they have that one, hmmm...
When I first saw this show, I was already on the other side of it- had been there, had done that, was doing it. Bah! I said! And then I started watching it. And fell in love.
I can't believe it's still on the radar. Yes. I loved Gary. Yes. I cried when he died.
But I think my favorite was Melissa with that crumpled-up smile, that never-say-never attitude.
Oh hell, maybe not. I have no idea who my favorite was. They were all wonderful. Glad it's still being watched.
I bawled my head off when Gary died. I felt like a member of my own family was gone. Ack!
I used to watch that! Didn't it come on before China Beach?
I loved 30-something, too, except that I watched it in my twenties and I'm a whole lot older than you which means you watched reruns or something. I totally remember when Gary died, and Hope bugged me to no end.
my boyfriend at the time had a major crush on hope!
I was in jr. high. My mother had just found a puppy on her way home from bingo. i was holding the puppy in the living room SOBBING. everyone came in and asked what was wrong with the puppy. i said, "nothing. gary just died!" i stayed home from school the next day. I will never forget when gary died.
Have you watched parenthood? it's really great too.
Netflix, yay! Just added it to my queue too. Such a fantastic show.
I watched this when I was in middle school. It made me want to be 30 so bad. And to go into advertising. And now both are true. And I still tear up when I hear "and dance by the light of the moon..." which is also the ending to My So Called Life. Which is actually set in middle school, but I watched as an adult. Circle of (TV) life?
