Mess Things

Everything in this house is a mess thing. The water heater broke and until we get it replaced- a day or so- we have no hot water. Dakota threatened to shave his head because he can't live without taking a shower in the morning ( can't be at night when he could take one at Grandmas ) to get his hair just right. We just stripped our tree and it sits moping and dehydrated in the corner, shedding needles everytime the dog's butt hits it. Our garage is semi-flooded with water from the heater. Our almost brand new dryer ( again my Mom, what would we do without Grandma! ) only 2 years old broke, and the repairman said it needs a whole new panel which is almost 400$. Which we don't have. Obviously. Our lawn mower? You guessed it! Broken! Mr. Curry tried to fix it but it wasn't cooperating. So our lawn is wild. Our brand new vacuum from WalMart? That is right. Broken band! So remember those needles from the tree everywhere? And our two big hairy dogs? Hmmm. You are getting the picture.

I stare a lot at my children because they are beautiful and a lot less dirty and hairy and needley than the rest of the house.

despite you being bummed, i can still hear the happiness is your voice ;)

Ohh Good Grief. And the lawnmower? We wintered ours back in late October. It'll be taken out again in April...maybe March.

Of course we are expecting 7inches of snow tonight and another 3 on Sunday.

Nothing to say except that the whole thing sux. Well, except the beautiful children, that part doesn't...

I just don't understand why everything breaks at once -- so weird and universal. I hope that, one by one, these things are remedied.

Your kids, on the other hand -- just wow.

when it rains it pours...not fun. Hope all is well with broken "stuff" soon.. :)

isn't it fascinating how everything breaks at the same time? and then a few years from now all these things will break at the same time again, because you'll be repairing/replacing all at once. yes. just keep gazing at your children. they are what's important anyway. the rest? meh.

broke why! ha!

Oh, no! I'm sorry for your minor disasters. I think I'd buy a used dryer rather than repair one for $400! Yikes!! My sister laughed at me when I paid $200 for a used washer & dryer (pair). That was over ten years ago and they've yet to break (knock on wood). We went through so many vacuums, we ripped out all our carpet and put down faux wood floors. They make shit so cheaply nowadays that it falls apart in no time...there oughta be a law!!!

Your children are healthy and beautiful and that's something to glow about. Just remember: this, too, shall pass.

Love & Blessings,
Marion

Hi Maggie,
You will not believe this coincidence. Our hot water heater has one of two elements burned out, so we can't shower at the same time, and I can't get through a whole shower and wash my hair without running out of hot water. My husband can't decide whether to repair or replace it. Our dryer thermostat broke last Friday, and just got repaired yesterday- almost $200. Our tree is out of the house, but not taken to the "wood chipper" yet at the local park. I empathize, and I hope it all works out for you soon.

The inbuilt redundancy of machines gets to me. They build them to break sooner and sooner, i sometimes thong. more and more landfill, more waste, more frustration, but broken machines and mess matter little in the scheme of things.

I feel your pain. Our hot water heat went out last weekend and we can't replace it until Saturday. So, I declared this "Pioneer Week" and have been heating water on the stove to wash faces, dishes, etc. We take showers at Grandma's, too, or our neighbors, who live two doors down. My two teenage daughters aren't handling it so well, but how could they? But I know the feeling, sometimes, EVERYTHING is broken, or past due, or lost or messy. Sigh. And yet, we persevere somehow. My motto is always "it could be worse". That works sometimes, not always though! You have a beautiful family. I started to comment on your post about your son last week because I went through the same thing with my son. My son is now 24 and doing really well, sober for two years. I agree with you. There has to be a better solution. Best of wishes to Dakota in his journey.

Yes. I agree with Elizabeth. When one thing breaks, expect the rest to tag along. (May-Tag?)
Not earth-shaking but life-altering and that's bad enough.
Focus on the babies- they are beautiful. I hope you get your hot water back soon. Running water and running HOT water are the two best things about civilization in my opinion.

All my major appliances go kaplooey in December.
Every year.

When it rains it pours right? Ugh...it will all work out soonish I hope!

Sometimes I really feel there's a conspiracy of appliances to mess with (and messy up) our lives.

It all gets fixed eventually, but oh the headache in the meantime.

And your two little girls are perfectly gorgeous.

ugh! I feel you. I do.

As to the dryer, we always get used appliances for much less than 400$ and they always seem to last and are even repairable if they do break... It's a thought.

Hang in there mommy!

Sorry to hear about your run of luck (or lack thereof) I have those myself sometimes.

The kids are gorgeous. Keep looking at them. I would.

Love you!

When it rains it pours as they say! In this house when one thing breaks, we can expect at least a dozen more things to follow! And why is it always in the winter? Two years ago BOTH of our cars broke in the same week that our kitchen sink leaked into the downstairs neighbor and I was pregnant and our back door was broken and water in a torrential rain soaked our floors.
Thank goodness for our beautiful babies! You got that right!

All temporary, but the joy you experience from the kids--permanent.

That's the way these things always seem to go. I'm being helped at the moment by my buddhist thought: change is the normal thing and therefore to be expected. Everything will break in the end, so when it does we should just say "and there it is." (I swear too and find it hard.)

I hope things work out! It will be a good feeling at least when some of it gets fixed.
