The Instinctive Philosopher and Daughter

Suddenly, through birthing a daughter, a woman finds herself face to face not only with an infant, a little girl, a woman-to-be, but also with her own unresolved conflicts from the past and her hopes and dreams for the future.... As though experiencing an earthquake, mothers of daughters may find their lives shifted, their deep feelings unearthed, the balance struck in all relationships once again off kilter. ~Elizabeth Debold and Idelisse Malave
The strength of motherhood is greater than natural laws.- Barbara Kingsolver
Mothers are instinctive philosophers- Harriet Beecher Stowe

If one feels the need of something grand, something infinite, something that makes one feel aware of God, one need not go far to find it. I think that I see something deeper, more infinite, more eternal than the ocean in the expression of the eyes of a little baby when it wakes in the morning and coos or laughs because it sees the sun shining on its cradle.-Vincent van Gogh
Laughter is like changing a baby's diaper. It doesn't permanently solve any problems, but it makes things more acceptable for a while ~ Unknown
It was the tiniest thing I ever decided to put my whole life into

My favorite quote is the Van Gogh one, which is odd in that he was never a mother. My favorite picture is the last.

hi maggie - been off the blogger radar for a while, but i'm BACK and, of course, i came running to flux. really, the first quote you posted about coming to terms with your own unresolved issues when you have a daughter really hit home for me. isn't it so true?

Also, your daughter is to SWOON over... so damn happy for you and your family! xo,hayley
