scenes from a marriage: photo essay

please note that anyone who finds these offensive can feel free to leave a comment, provided the comment is not full of shit, or shit flinging. any losses i may accumulate to my followers will be accepting gracefully because i have always and still intend to keep this blog as a place of shelter for myself, not a creation of media for others. thank you.

I like them.

I'm really big on artistic nude photography. I can't wait to get into it once I gain more photo experience!

Beautiful!

Evangeline said...

No offense here, these made me smile! For two reasons, #1 obviously because you are insanely beautiful with your pregnant belly, and because I was happy to see that in the background your bedroom is respectably untidy (although not quite as untidy as mine). ;)

We didn't take naked belly pics when I was pregnant, and I have often regretted it...at the time though we were just too shell-shocked at the idea of having twins to think of doing it.

saracita said...

Don't apologize. These are beautiful, as are you.

Maggie May said...

thank you everyone :) Evangeline (one of my favorite names ever) we left it messy on purpose, exactly! i am writing/shooting a series i'm calling scenes from a marriage and the point is gritty honesty. xo

Brigindo said...

Offensive? No. But quite beautiful. I love the intimacy.

I thought Mr Curry's hand on your belly was a tattoo. Would be a cool tattoo to have. How many weeks now?

Maggie May said...

i'm 15 weeks! go biggie pea :)

Boobies and babies, what's not to love?

I have one last belly pick to take of my wife, and it will be the mother of all belly pics.

Freakin' FABULOUS!

I cannot imagine who would find these offensive. These are beautiful. Wish I was as brave.

Kate said...

beautiful and thanks for sharing these lovely real images!

Gritty, honest, and very beautiful. Oh, by the way, my vote is for Phoebe. (Biggie P?) ♥

Love the pregnant belly, body, entire kaboodle you. You speak love and nurture and positive energy.

We did pregnant pictures with all our pregnancies and if our house burned, I'd run and grab those first.

PS: Would love to hear more about your tattoos...

Elizabeth said...

I love it -- so beautiful and so ethereal, really. The only thing I'm wondering, though, is how could that body have already birthed three babies? YOU are an amazingly beautiful woman.

Kirsten Blowers said...

girl, you rock it! Loved it!

Offense at what exactly? Nevermind, they are lovely, lovely photos!

Vashti said...

Stunning! Thats all I have to say.x

Annie said...

Hi Maggie,
Your body is beautiful, pregnancy is beautiful, and emotions are beautiful- but just some words of caution- once you publish, you really have no control. People can copy and crop and change at will, the interpretation of your images. (It's not too late to pull them, and get them out of public search engines.) I like the one of your husband's hand on your belly the most, and both "belly" photos remind me of being pregnant, a time in my life I loved. I only have one picture of my belly, at about eight months- just my belly, with my arms and hands placed at strategic angles- I wish I had more, and that my face was in it, but I'm glad I have at least the one photo- pregnancy is a lovely shape!

the body of a woman bearing life is so fantastic. magical....

I love your gut wrenching honesty, something I truly admire. I can't see how these pictures could possibly be offensive, they are just beautiful! and your post on girl culture is just spot on!.. thankfully, here in Ireland, political correctness/abject fear, hasn't reached the same levels.. yet. Hope the tooth is being sorted.. and all good things to all of your clan and yourself :-D

Beautiful photos, Maggie May. So much hope and love in those hands tenderly laid on your tummy. 15 weeks! That's great.

(anyone who finds these pix offensive needs to have a long talk with their mother)

Marriage is a beautiful mess. Is that the essay?:)

Ms. Moon said...

Amen, beautiful sister/beautiful wife/beautiful mother/beautiful woman.

Gorgeous. These are completely timeless.

red-handed said...

Really? I thought they were lovely.

p.s. In Ontario, it's legal for women to go topless in public. So ... no big deal.

K Soucy said...

These are so beautiful and intimate. Thanks for sharing.

Hi~

Offended? Your pictures are breathtaking Maggie May. I've wanted to comment before (so many times), but I'm intimidated by your writing and always feel like I'm stammering (although I did get up the courage to privately email you when you first became pregnant).

Anyway, your honest writing both repels me and draws me in. Sometimes it hurts to read, but the feelings you articulate, they make me feel less "other", and that makes the discomfort so worth it. I think you are incredibley gifted, and I feel grateful to have stumbled into your online world. Thank-you for all the hard work you have done to become the person you are, despite what has been handed to you. I think you are amazing.

Peace~
Karen

Lose followers? It's practically chaste. Very tasteful, honest, beautiful. This is a win.

Bex said...

I love the grainy black and white, and the messy bedroom, and your hair all over the place. To me the pictures are very sexy in their intimacy. And of course because you look fantastic.

Brittany said...

All beautiful photos, but something about the first one makes me a bit sniffly. In a goof way.

krista said...

that first picture, in particular, is AMAZING. so so beautiful.
le sigh.

(although i really want to organize your dresser for you and find a spot for everything. then again, i reorganize my closets for fun.)

Beautiful. Love. Real.

I absolutely love that first one (they're all great though). I wish I had taken more photos when I was pregnant, especially ones that capture this type of intimacy. They're beautiful. I think you'll really cherish them down the line.

LOVELY!!! You are a beautiful pregnant woman, and I LOVE the mess in the background and his hand on your belly and just EVERYTHING. Beautiful post!

Amber said...

The series is brilliant...the photos are beautiful! Can't wait to see more :)

Jenn said...

I love them, they're absolutely stunning. I know I'll never have another baby belly like that, and I feel honored when people let me into their worlds to see theirs. Thank you!

<3 this!!!!!

Just his 33 weeks. Good luck! And yes...capture every moment!

Cid said...

Gorgeous photos. So glad the pregnancy is progressing well.

Paula said...

Ahhh, you brave girl...
I have been a big fan of your honesty and ability to put every last ounce of your heart and soul out there for the world to see and ponder. Wish I could do the same. I have a blog dedicated to my children and one waiting in the wings without a single post because I am too afraid to put it all out there. Not sure how to handle judgment I guess...

nfmgirl said...

How could anyone find a pregnant woman and the apparent love of a man for his woman "offensive"? Beautiful!

Grow, baby, grow!

Amy said...

I can't imagine what would be offensive about these photos. They are really quite beautiful.

Lola Sharp said...

I think you look beautiful. I love that you're both in them.

Go Biggie Pea!

Louis Duke Photography said...

those are absolutely amazing. truly.

Amber said...

seriously, you didn't need the disclaimer. This is raw beauty captured in a photo. It has been happening since the dawn of time...from caveman drawings until now. (we ARE all naked under our clothes)

Maggie May said...

Kate we are actually not considering any P names for girls :) It's just Biggie Pea just because :)

Thank you all for having my back. I'm sure some don't but so far they aren't commenting ;)

incredibly beautiful.

Not only are these incredibly interesting shots (I love the contrast: masculine/feminine, soft/gritty) but they are beautiful.
And, after seeing how amazing you look having already given birth to three children, and pregnant with your fourth, I am going to find my secret stash of chocolate-covered peanut butter crackers and drown my chunky pregnant sorrows away! ;)

Mwa said...

So gorgeous. And I feel privileged to have seen them.

Allison the Meep said...

Nothing offensive here at all. I thought this was beautiful. You look radiant.

Oh wow. I think more would be as brave if we were nearly as beautiful. Yay for bellies and boobies, daddies, mommies, and Biggie Peas (and beautiful art)!

Glorious!

Such an intimate, beautiful moment.

Like a whisper.

Wish I'd done the same a hundred years ago when I was in my twenties and blooming with child.

You are a revelation Maggie May...

I can't wait to see the complete series.

Good to see Biggie Bean growing so nicely too. Please give him/her a pat/rub for me.
Peace,

Meh, small minded prudes would find these offensive, in which case who CARES if they don't come here anymore? I read but rarely comment, so I wanted to let you know that I think these are beautiful.

I love the photos. I am most taken with those dresser drawers and your breasts.

Lacey said...

Stunning.

A Musing Mother said...

I'm going to be the voice of dissent here. I am offended.

That you could be over the age of thirty, in your second trimester, be your own photographer and look like THAT!

You want gritty honesty? Talk your boobs down from their high and mighty perky pedestal.

Then come on over with your camera and see "untidy" and "womanly curves" (although not pregnant and not pointing up).

I want so much to hate you for looking so fabulous. Why do you have to be so wonderful?

You go girl!

I love them. Beautiful LIGHT. And I'm taking your "accepting losses of followers gracefully" concept as a mantra.

Lovely pregnant photos!

Bee said...

It's so sweet to see your pregnant belly. These are tender pictures; surely the only negative emotion they could inspire would be envy.

Look at you two, glowing around biggie pea. These are truly treasures, Maggie. Gorgeous.

Traci W. said...

You have done a very tasteful and artistic job with these photos. To hell with anyone who finds them offensive. They are beautiful and so is your family.
