"Hegemony - is the political, economic, ideological or cultural power exerted by a dominant group over other groups, regardless of the explicit consent of the latter. While initially referring to the political dominance of certain ancient Greek city-states over their neighbors, the term has come to be used in a variety of other contexts, in particular Marxist philosopher Antonio Gramsci's theory of cultural hegemony. The term is often mistakenly used to suggest brute power or dominance, when it is better defined as emphasizing how control is achieved through consensus not force."
I like this;) Mr. Fish is one of my loves. Check out his website.....google and have fun!!! I try everyday to bring social justice and self-advocacy to my child. Peace on earth begins at home.
I am the type of person to agree with the above statement, but I am wondering what would happen, if the good old U.S.A. put away all it's nuclear weapons, remained within its border and started to practice pacifism tomorrow.
Would the world become the safe and peaceful one we wished for ?
or would China rear it's head, or Russia start beating it's chest ?

"Her looks fading, the vain Lispector became increasingly reclusive and demanding. Addicted to cigarettes and sleeping pills, she exhibited erratic and sometimes imperious behavior. She would call friends in the middle of the night and flee dinner parties for little apparent reason. She had a reputation for being a liar."-<em>NYT on Clarice Lispector
My dear child, who can tell? One can only tell that, by remembering something which happened where we lived before; and as we remember nothing, we know nothing about it; and no book, and no man, can ever tell us certainly.
Some couples don’t ask much of one another after they’ve worked out the fundamentals of jobs and children. Some live separate intellectual and cultural lives, and survive, but the most intense, most fulfilling marriages need, I think, to struggle toward some kind of ideological convergence. Norman Rush

I find this highly offensive.
Marion i don't understand what you find offensive? That definition, this poster, the concept? Sorry :)
I'm with you, Maggie. I prefer peace over domination and terrorism. Our children deserve a future at its best.
My coworker, The Creep in the Art Department, wonders “Who is Mr Fish? And is he a fan of Alfredo Alcala?”
