Handing Over the Baton

Ever smiles a lot, and we kiss her A LOT

Lola, Ever and I trekked to Starbucks this morning. I stood in line and realized that both of my daughters were clean and dressed beautifully, Lola with a chic brown newsboy cap on and red Converse, and that I looked like I went naked into a closet filled with dog hair and ill fitting clothes, twirled around three times until something stuck to my body, and then pulled on uggs. My hair was disheveled and tied into a Napoleon Dynamite style side pony that was supposed to be a regular pony but somehow went sideways during the morning. I'm falling apart and chubby with stretchy stomach skin and puffy, dark eyes, and my daughter's are radiant, gorgeous and slim. The official baton handing over has begun. My dears, take my youth, take my beauty, take my composure and sure opinions about the world, take my pretty skin and slim thighs, just keep giving me your love and trust, and I will consider it the best trade I've ever made.

oh dear. is this real life?

They are gorgeous and so are you. Don't argue...you look amazing!

Those weeks after giving birth does take it's toll on mommys...the kids always look great and one hopes that what friends will take notice of...though I loving hug for mommy would be most appreciated...then nothing matters...just the smile of joy on your face.

aw, sweet and funny and true post.
love the description of yourself, the dog hair twirling in the closet and your mistake side ways pony. I have a feeling you looked hip anyway though, Maggie May.

Oh darling. You haven't really given up that baton yet. Not for awhile. Not THAT baton.

Oh Maggie, I love this post!! Sweet motherhood, but by god, we do the best we care to. I guess I need to hurry and have a girl to have someone to pass the baton to, Jackson Daniel is rarely representative of what I used to be, he is lucky if his socks match! : ) So glad you all are doing well.

Lol to this, the exact reason why my blog is named as it is! 8 months after the birth of my first (and possibly only) daughter, and I'm finally starting to feel like I can look "put together" again. I've got hope for you, too!

so very true is the sentiment, but not the fact of it. you are, all three of you, gorgeous. but i still know what you mean by this post, and it's a beautiful thing.

"-and then put on Uggs."

That's is just THE topper to a (not) sexy outfit, isn't it?

I'm right there in the dog hair closet, seester. (except that mine is at least 60% cat).

Your beauty evolves just like their beauty, Maggie. You know where they're going because you're out ahead, charting the waters. And you're doing a fine job.

I think Ever definitely has Mr. Curry's eyes. Heartbreakers those eyes are.

Maggie, Maggie, Maggie, you are so funny! You will get back to your normal stylish, lovely, semi-composed self... you WILL!

I always say that Harley is much better dressed than either of his parents, and it's true. We get hand me downs from very fashion conscious families! (We did not plan it, it just is) And so, he is always dressed to kill! I am more like the twirling dervish you described in your closet.

I'm happy you are enjoying this time and soaking it in.

Merry Christmas Maggie. It's been a hell of a year!

Hi Maggie,
It's a lovely, worthwhile trade- but, you will get your body and sense of style back! The months of little sleep, and milky spit-up on your shoulder will definitely pass, and you will be stepping out with your daughters, all three of you confident and stylish! Merry, Merry Christmas to you and your wonderful family!

I think its a few more years till you have to hand over that batton - that happened for me when my girls were about 16 and when I walked down the street I would see the eyes of men flick right over me to them - and in a way I enjoyed my invisibility - you see so much more when people don't see you
