Wolfgang and Ever

Wolfgang on baby duty

Ever is, so far, an 'easy' baby, meaning that she's not colicky or generally miserable most of the time, is able to be soothed, nurses well, and cries only to communicate a need, which when met, ends the crying. Obligatory poop information: We are highly concerned with the color of her poop. Yellow is good. Green, according to my chart, means either a virus or lactose intolerance. I cut out all 'obvious' dairy, such as milk and cheese, but still some creeps in, and her poop was green, then yellow again, then green again twice, and now is yellow again. .....? I've taken her temperature a few days and it's normal. On that note, you'll be delighted to hear ( what? you aren't? ) that Ever grunts exactly like a little billy goat when she is pooping. It's really funny. She also has the habit of knocking herself out immediately after pooping. Grunt, grunt, baa-baaa, snooooze. She also has been spitting up some, twice enough to have to change her outfit. That seems really strange to me for a breastfed baby. The doctor said CSection babies spit up more because they aren't compressed through the birthing canal and their lungs are not aspirated. So they have more ick in their lungs. But Ever is over two weeks. We will see at her appointment.
Since we are speaking of butts, Ever's is getting adorably chubby. What is cuter that a chubby baby butt?

We took all four kids out for the first time on Saturday night, to Mr. Curry's uncle's huge Christmas party. It was an awesome, full feeling to have our entire family in one car. Milestone.

I wasn't going to give Ever a pacifier until she was at least one month, but she is such a mouthy baby, and my breasts are getting so sore, that I did anyway. I am loving these BPA free, really cheap and cute pacifiers, minus the predictable fact that although we have FOUR, we can only find ONE.
Jason, as himself said...

What a good doggy! When Diego was a baby, my dogs were just jealous.

I'm so happy for you and your milestone of taking all four kids with you at once to that party.

Wolfgang looks very attentive! He's a gorgeous dog...I breast fed one of my girls and bottle fed the other. I recall the breast fed one having multi-colored poop and way more often. I'm so glad Ever's a good baby. My breast fed daughter never would take a pacifier or a bottle. I was lucky enough to have stayed home with her till she was weaned at age 3. LOL! Yes, I know. When they're old enough to ask for it, it's time to wean.

I hope you all have a fabulous Christmas. Blessings!!

I think the whole poop thing is entirely normal -- green, yellow, etc. As for the spitting up, that's probably normal, too! I highly recommend taking Ever, though, to an osteopath (there's an incredible one in your neck of the woods) -- I brought both my boys at eight days old and I swear it's why they're the way they are and were as babies! Email me if you want --

beez, green poop has little to do with sensitivities and lots to do with hind/foremilk imbalance. if it's green, she's not getting enough hindmilk with the higher fat content. you can get more hindmilk into her by nursing on the same side for longer instead of switching off as often. it's tricky to switch over to switching less, without irritating your breasts, but take a look at kellymom.com for help with hind/foremilk. <3

baz thank you so much!

We always had TONS of pacifiers around with Isabella. One in the playpen...several in her bed (because she slept in the dark and it's hard to find a paci in the dark), one in each car attached to the car seat, one at the changing table........one with the high chair/shopping cart covers, and a couple in the diaper bag.

Hope her poop works itself out soon!

Some babies are just really sucky. Our boys are as well. I was NEVER going to give any child of mine a dummy ever. And I gave my first child one when he was about three days old. Funny how everything is different for every child and there's no way you can plan anything.

Quit worrying about the color of your baby's poop. I MEAN IT! Goodness gracious, girl. If she is growing and in no distress, her poop is just as it should be.
And spit up? Oh Lord. Lily spit up so much that I couldn't believe I was even making that much milk! And yet she grew like a tiger! And she certainly wasn't a C-section baby. She was huge and came out of me with GREAT difficulty and much squeezing.
Some things just are the way they are.
I guess what I'm saying here is- all is well.

my little EBF 11 week old also has some green poop every other day or so and i read the same thing! wtf? he doesn't seem upset or collicky otherwise tho....hmmm....

She sure is lovely!

And as for the spit up - while no one ever told me that - it was true for me. C-section baby spat up constantly, V-bac baby, hardly ever.

what a gorgeous new bundle you have! FYI on the spit up, my exclusively breastfed baby spit up ALL the time and A LOT (I changed many an outfit) and she kept this up until maybe five or six months of age...she still spits up occasionally at ten months. Unless it's bothering her I wouldn't stress about it, I read in one of the Sears' books that spit up is not a digestion problem but a laundry problem.

Ohhh, I remember those where's the pacifier days! I'm so happy for you guys- all sounds well to me!

I think Baz may be on to something, MAggie. Nola had green poo and it sent us down a rabbithole for which we never found an answer. I cut out everything from my diet and never found a specific link. A doctor told me to quit breastfeeding which was a disgusting request, IMO and would have been the absolutely wrong decision. She sounds like a very content baby and she is simply beautiful.

Hey - congratulations!!

I didn't read the other comments, but green frothy poop = too much foremilk. Try block feeding (look up on kellymom.com) - feeding on one side over a chunk of time (I used 2 hours; kellymom recommends 3) over and over again so that she gets the hindmilk, and you should see more yellow poop consistently. :)

Hope that helps! I had the same issue and it was creepy green poop in my little guy!

Also! Spitting up - my baby (6 months old) also had craaaazy reflux, and he is EBF. (He was not a c-section baby, too.) Projectile vomit, and then it stopped around 4.5 months. It was a laundry problem, for the most part, although he slept on a wedge for most of those 4.5 months, which helped a lot.

Ever is adorable!

Great photos, Maggie. Glad to hear how Ever is doing.

Love you. Happy holidays!

Sweet pictures. ^_^ I'm not much of a dog lover, but I do appreciate their protectiveness, especially when it comes to babies. You won't find a cat standing guard like that! One of my cats hangs around my 8 mo. old, but only because she's hoping to get attention!

CUTENESS!!! Soleil was a breastfed baby that barfed like a college student on a bender ever. single. day. for MONTHS! We changed clothes at least 4 times per day. She also had green poop. I did all kinds of dietary restrictions and the poop stayed green for many, many, many months. The doctor told me to put on some sunglasses or something because sometimes poop is just green and that is OK (once you've ruled out anything serious of course).
Ever looks AMAZINGLY cute and wonderful :)

Therese said...

PS: I did all kinds of different nursing methods to increase Soleil's hindmilk intake, and although she puffed up like a butter ball turkey the poop stayed green... FYI.

I also wanted to hold on the pacifier but found it to serve as a magical calming instrument ;) wishing that Ever keeps on getting stronger and stronger!
