Love her poetry put to music. This was lyrical, beautiful. (And I'm just a little jealous of her, sitting on park benches, walking train tracks, knitting, playing guitar, alone, alone...)
Wow! That was great. I nearly didn't watch it . . and now I'm glad I did. It's made my smile reach across my face to both my ears and my eyes have crinkled (with a smidgen of tears). Maggie, thank you for finding it and posting it on your blog. (To say I lurk here a lot! is an understatement - your writing touches my heart, so thank you for that too).
I've seen this around. And I don't know where I was reading some discussion regarding it, but I had to agree. Where did the idea come that being a woman who is alone and doesn't need a guy or a companion or a posse of girlfriends or whatever is bad , or hard, or not socially acceptable. I kind of found it a step backwards in a sense. Initially I was all..oh this is so so beautiful And then I realized, wait . I don't get where the problem was to begin with. Is it a reflection of our super plugged in social society now. Which of course I'm too old to be a part of so don't get this angst.
( and thanks for being someone I knew I could be honest with here )
This is just amazing - I often sit and have coffee by myself, or walk about...but so many more things and ways to get out and about alone - and not be seen as loneliness being a problem...maybe the time is also a gift

"Her looks fading, the vain Lispector became increasingly reclusive and demanding. Addicted to cigarettes and sleeping pills, she exhibited erratic and sometimes imperious behavior. She would call friends in the middle of the night and flee dinner parties for little apparent reason. She had a reputation for being a liar."-<em>NYT on Clarice Lispector
My dear child, who can tell? One can only tell that, by remembering something which happened where we lived before; and as we remember nothing, we know nothing about it; and no book, and no man, can ever tell us certainly.
Some couples don’t ask much of one another after they’ve worked out the fundamentals of jobs and children. Some live separate intellectual and cultural lives, and survive, but the most intense, most fulfilling marriages need, I think, to struggle toward some kind of ideological convergence. Norman Rush
Love it -- love it -- love it --
